According to the New York State Labor Department, Long Island, New York’s plumbers, pipefitters and steamfitters, as the broader category is called, earn a median annual salary of $95,010, according to state data. That’s more than twice the Island’s overall median salary of $42,970.
“Demand is outstripping the supply of plumbers in the workforce,” several local plumbers said in a recent Newsday article. “That demand is being driven by new construction and the aging of the housing stock on Long Island, the country’s oldest suburb.
