Scholarship Program Guidelines

Who can apply?

  1. The intent of the Nexstar Legacy Foundation scholarship program is to bring talent into, and enhance and train existing talent in the industries of plumbing, HVAC, and electrical.
  2. Applicants must be a citizen of the USA, Canada, Australia or the Cayman Islands.

What types of scholarships are available?

  1. Technician – Candidates who are participating in or attending an apprenticeship or trade school program to attain a technical degree for plumbing, HVAC or electrical.
  2. Management – Candidates who are participating in a management program in the plumbing, HVAC or electrical industries. This includes individuals intending to own and/or operate their own business as well as individuals planning to work in marketing, accounting, mechanical engineering, operations or other related positions within this type of business.

Scholarship Timeline for 2017

  1. Technician
    1. Continuous throughout year; 4-6 week cycle
    2. Deadline of December 1, 2017.
  2. Donor-Named
    1. Application period is July 1 – November 1, 2017
      1. George Brazil Technician – $5,000
      2. Jill Reed Management/Marketing – $2,000
      3. Legacy-sponsored Management in Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical – $5,000
      4. Frank Blau Management – $6,000
      5. AO Smith – $5,000 ($1,000 x 5)
    2. What are the eligibility requirements for the scholarships?
      1. All technician applicants must be enrolled in their identified program for the entire academic period.
      2. Applicants may not receive more than one scholarship within the same calendar year.
      3. Applicants receiving a management scholarship must be enrolled in their identified program for the duration of the academic year.
      4. Applicants who are current employees of a plumbing, heating and cooling and/or electrical business are not eligible to receive funding.
      5. There is not a GPA requirement; however, all applicants must provide the required information.
    3. How will applications be reviewed? Applications will be reviewed by volunteer committee members, including Nexstar member businesses, scholarship donors, Nexstar staff and strategic partners.

Troops to Trades Scholarship Guidelines

Who can apply?

  1. The intent of the Nexstar Legacy Foundation scholarship program is to bring talent into, and enhance and train existing talent in the industries of plumbing, HVAC, and electrical.
  2. Troops to Trades applicants must be veterans (honorable discharged) of the United States Armed Forces, as well as active National Guard and Reserve members.

What types of scholarships are available?

  1. Training Grants – Candidate must be currently employed at a plumbing, heating and cooling and electrical business
  2. Technician – Candidates who are participating in or attending an apprenticeship or trade school program to attain a technical degree for plumbing, HVAC or electrical.
  3. A/C Pro  Three scholarships at $5,000 each; candidate must be enrolled in an HVAC program.

Scholarship Application Timeline

  1. T2T Technician
    1. Continuous through the year; processed every 4-6 weeks; $1,000 each
    2. Deadline of December 1, 2017.
  2. A/C Pro – Application period is July 1 – November 1, 2017; $5,000 each (three available)
  3. Training Grants
    1. Travel expenses are paid for all candidates receiving a training grant
    2. Continuous application through the year; deadline of December 1, 2017.
  4. How will applications be reviewed? Applications will be reviewed by volunteer committee members, including Nexstar member businesses, scholarship donors, Nexstar staff and strategic partners.
  5. What are the eligibility requirements for the scholarships?
    1. All Troops to Trades technician grant applicants must be enrolled in their identified program for the entire academic period.
    2. Applicants may not receive more than one scholarship within the same calendar year.
    3. Applicants who are current employees of a plumbing, heating and cooling and/or electrical business are not eligible to receive funding.
    4. Applicants receiving a training grant must be currently employed at a plumbing, heating and cooling and electrical business and successfully complete the program.
