According to Manpower Group in their 2014 Global Talent Shortage Survey, 40% of U.S. employers report difficulty in filling jobs, and 36% of employers globally report difficulty in filling jobs.
Their 2014 U.S. Talent Survey shows that specifically the skilled trades are the number one category of most difficult jobs to fill.

Technician Shortage

Globally and in the U.S., employers report the most shortages in the skilled trades. The skilled trade category includes technicians, engineers, sales representatives, and all other jobs associated with a skilled trade business. Within the skilled trades category, technicians rank as the third and sales representatives as the fourth most difficult job to fill.
