Nexstar Legacy Foundation Scholarship Guidelines

 

Who can apply?

The intent of the Nexstar Legacy Foundation scholarship program is to bring talented individuals into, the plumbing, HVAC, and electrical industries.

How do they apply?

All applicants may apply for the scholarships online. All scholarship applications will be housed in Community Force, a cloud-based scholarship management system.

Rules and Guidelines

  1. Applicants must submit an official high school transcript, GED certificate and most recent post-secondary transcript (if applicable).
  2. Applicants must submit at least two letters of reference.
  3. Applicants will be asked to explain their interest and background in the skilled trades.
  4. Applicants must be enrolled in their stated program for the duration of the academic cycle.
  5. Each scholarship is a one-time award.
  6. Scholarship checks will be sent to the training program or school of record listed on the application; not to the recipient.
  7. Previous Nexstar Legacy Foundation scholarship and training grant recipients are not eligible for future awards.
  8. It is the intent of the Nexstar Legacy Foundation to award scholarships and training grants to students who are interested in pursuing their career in the skilled trades of plumbing, HVAC and electrical and are not currently employed. The scholarships and training grants are not intended to subsidize the training costs associated with existing employee development.
  9. Scholarship funding may not be used on Nexstar Network classes.

When are the scholarships open?

  1. April 20th – August 1st
  2. A selection committee is responsible for ranking and selecting the winners. Winners are judged on their high level of academic achievement, character, leadership, financial need, and commitment to advancing the industries of plumbing, HVAC and electrical.
  3. Applicants will be notified in August 2018.

What scholarships are available?

  1. Frank Blau, Jr. – $6,000
    – Awarded to a student who is enrolled in a business-related degree at a four-year college or university. Accepted programs are business administration/management, entrepreneurship, finance and accounting, marketing, human resource management, construction management.
  2. George Brazil – $5,000
    Awarded to a student who is currently enrolled – or will enroll – in a PHCE trade school program or apprenticeship.
  3. Pat Langlin Brazil – $5,000
    Awarded to a female student who is currently enrolled – or will enroll – in a PHCE apprenticeship.
  4. Diversity in PHCE – $3,500
    – Awarded to students demonstrating financial need who are traditionally underrepresented in the industries of plumbing, heating and air conditioning, electrical: women, African-American students, Asian students, Hispanic/Latino students, multi-racial/ethnic students, indigenous/Native American students.
    – Applicants will be asked to identify their race per the criteria of the scholarship.
  5. Jill Reed Women in Marketing – $2,000
    Awarded to a female student who is enrolled in a marketing program at a four-year college or university.

 

Troops to Trades Scholarships

Who can apply?

  1. The intent of Troops to Trades scholarships and training grants is to bring veterans into the plumbing, HVAC, and electrical industries.
  2. Applicants must be honorably discharged veterans of the United States or Canadian Armed Forces.

How do they apply?

All applicants may apply for the scholarships online. All scholarship applications will be housed in Community Force, a cloud-based scholarship management system.

  2. Applicants must submit the first page of their DD214.
  3. Applicants must submit at least two letters of reference.
  4. Applicants will be asked to explain their interest and background in the skilled trades.
  5. Applicants must be enrolled in their stated program for the duration of the academic cycle.
  6. Each scholarship is a one-time award.
  7. Scholarship checks will be sent to the training program or school of record listed on the application; not to the recipient.
