Training Grants

Are you a military Veteran, active Guard or Reservist? Are you interested in plumbing, HVAC or electrical jobs?  Troops to Trades provides training grants to approved training programs.

The comprehensive training pays all expenses. It’s designed to arm you with the skills you need to enter a new career in the trades. The accelerated programs are 2 to 4 weeks in length.

This training also include sales and customer service training. Use these training grants for the short-term programs here. Work with us to arrange to use the grant for others.

Fill out an application today. We review them on a monthly basis. We award grants monthly, too.

Don’t Forget! Service members transitioning out of military service are eligible for education benefits through the GI Bill.

Ultimate Technical Academy (UTA)

Ultimate Technical Academy offers unique training solutions for the plumbing, HVAC and electrical industries. There are 3 training options available to Troops to Trades grant recipients:

  • Residential Plumbing. UTA’s training gives new plumbers a “jump-start” by teaching the practical side of the trade. This course teaches you what it takes to maintain the residential plumbing system. You’ll leave the class with a better understanding of the principals. You’ll also learn how to perform routine maintenance repairs within the plumbing system.
  • HVAC. UTA offers core courses in Refrigeration AC/Heat Pump, Electrical Technology and Heating. These courses are for novice, intermediate and experienced technicians. The Troops to Trades program will send veterans to at least two of the main courses offered in this program.
  • Electrical. UTA’s training gives you a “jump start” by teaching the practical side of the trade. This 1-week course contains a blend of classroom and “hands-on” training. You learn the theory on “how it works” in the classroom. You’ll get “hands-on” training in the lab, which teaches procedures on how to get the job done.

Lennox BuildATech

The Lennox BuildATech program is a blended learning experience. It enables you to learn skills online as well as in the classroom.
Are you interested in HVAC? This 4-week technical training class transforms you into a revenue-generating technician. You’ll learn:
  • A systems approach to troubleshooting home comfort issues.
  • Repeatable diagnostic techniques that yield tangible results.
  • A thorough understanding of interpersonal communications and computation skills.
There’s also a major emphasis on testing:
  • EPA and NATE
  • A 2-day practical exam where you complete 8 heating and cooling tune ups.
You’ll also receive Nexstar Service System® training. This program builds professional and proficient skills for creating long-term customer relationships. BuildATech is your quickest route to becoming a professional and proficient technician.
BuildATech training programs happen monthly.

Other Grants & Training Programs

General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program

The Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) has helped Air Force members and families reach academic goals since 1942. The General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant program is the centerpiece of the Society’s education initiatives.

The popular program has disbursed 102,244 grants since the first awards were awarded in the 1988-1989 academic year.
