Scholarships

Explore The Trades Scholarships are available for Individuals who are seeking a career in the plumbing, HVAC or electrical fields.

Our scholarship program’s objective is to bring talent into, and enhance and train existing talent in the industries of plumbing, HVAC, and electric. A variety of scholarships are available at all levels of the industry. They include scholarships for men and women planning to run or work in management at businesses in this industry, as well as individuals working on their technical degrees. There are also special training opportunities for veterans.

We have scholarship applications open at different times of the year.  Scholarships are available to qualified individuals interested in entering, or currently working in, the plumbing, HVACR, and electrical fields. Students must be legal residents or a citizen of the USA, Canada or the Cayman Islands.

The foundation has given away scholarships totaling $275,000 since our founding in 2005.

2018 Scholarship Awards

The Nexstar Legacy Foundation is proud to announce the following recipients of the 2018 scholarships.

Recipients of the A/C Pro Veterans in HVAC Scholarship

Nicholas Freeburg, an Army veteran from Yakima, Wash. was awarded a $5,000 scholarship from A/C Pro and is studying at Perry Technical Institute for his HVAC-R certification.

Howard Raleigh, a Marine veteran from Orange, Calif. was awarded a $5,000 scholarship from A/C Pro and is pursuing his training in HVAC-R from Brownson Technical School.

The following scholarships were privately funded through the Nexstar Legacy Foundation.

Pat Langlin Brazil Women in the Trades Scholarship

Ryli Jetton from Ashland, Mo. was awarded a $5,000 scholarship and is studying in the HVAC program at State Technical College of Missouri.

George Brazil Technician Scholarship

Isaac Klahn from New Berlin, Wis. was awarded a $5,000 scholarship and is studying plumbing at Waukesha County Technical College.

Veterans in PHCE Scholarship

Jared Blewett, a Navy veteran from Yakima, Wash., was awarded the $3,500 scholarship. Blewett is attending Perry Technical Institute in Yakima, Wash. for his HVAC certification.

Frank Blau, Jr. Management Scholarship

Emily Hildebrandt from Waseca, Minn. has been awarded the $6,000 Frank Blau, Jr. Management Scholarship. She is studying at the College of Business Administration at the University of Wisconsin – LaCrosse.

Diversity in PHCE Scholarship

Ronny Rodriguez from Freeport, N.Y. was awarded the $3,500 scholarship and is pursuing his HVAC-R certification at the Electrical Training Center in Copiague, N.Y.

The following individuals received Troops to Trades scholarships from the Nexstar Legacy Foundation. The scholarships are dedicated for veterans receiving their education and/or training in the residential service industries of plumbing, HVAC and electrical.

Matthew Stout, a Navy veteran from Winton, Cali., received a $2,000 scholarship to attend the Lennox Virtual Build-A-Tech program. Stout is employed with All American Plumbing, Heating and Air, a Nexstar Network member in Los Banos, CA.

Hunter Thiel, an Air Force veteran from Minnesota, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for his training in HVAC at Ultimate Tech Academy. Thiel works for DeZiel Heating & Air Conditioning, a Nexstar Network member company in Buffalo, Minn.

James Craig, an Army veteran from Queen Creek, Ariz., was awarded $2,000 for his HVAC certification at East Valley Institute of Technology in Mesa, AZ.

David Han, a Navy veteran from Plainview, N.Y., was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for his electrical certificate at Electrical Training Center in Copiague, N.Y.

Antoine Skrine, an Air Force veteran, was awarded $2,000 to complete his HVAC certification at DMAC Tech in Orlando, FL.

Brian Spencer, an Army veteran, received a $5,000 scholarship for training in HVAC at Ultimate Tech Academy. Spencer works for Service Professor, a Nexstar Network member company located in Grand Rapids, Mich.

With special thanks to Lennox, the following individuals received training through the Build-A-Tech program. The recipients are all military veterans who were awarded training through Troops to Trades, a program of the Nexstar Legacy Foundation.
