The trades are a timeless industry with a rich history. For generations, tradespeople have been instrumental in building this nation and they will continue to serve our communities years into the future.
Explore The Trades was founded in 2005 to promote this legacy and empower future trades professionals.
Why Our Work Matters
Over the last generation, many factors have played a role in creating a skilled labor shortage. What was once considered the backbone of this nation, the trades were cast aside as society favored a “college for all” mentality. Now is the time to renew our focus on the industries that keep our country running.
Explore The Trades exists to bridge the technical talent gap to the service trades:
- Plumbing
- Heating
- Cooling
- Electrical
Jobs in these industries are in high demand and come with great pay, career opportunities, and job security. We want to help people discover that these careers aren’t just a choice —they’re the best choice.

Donor Spotlight

Joe Allen
Founder
JAS Wireless
Joe Allen founded JAS Wireless in 2003 with one clear mission: to help smaller companies lower their cost when dealing with the major wireless carriers. After seeing how often businesses overpaid or felt overwhelmed by cell phone decisions, Joe set out to change that—providing clarity, strategy, and big savings to businesses that didn’t have the time or leverage to navigate confusing rate plans and equipment promotions.
In 2005, JAS Wireless became a Nexstar Network Strategic Partner, allowing JAS to scale its efforts nationwide. Today, JAS supports contractors and service businesses across the country with wireless cost-saving strategies, equipment procurement, mobile device management, and other mobility and telecom solutions.
But Joe’s impact goes far beyond business. Joe began volunteering with New York at Risk (now Unlocking Futures), a nonprofit dedicated to mentoring and empowering youth in New York City. One of his key messages to the young people he mentored was simple: success isn’t just about suits and offices—there’s pride and purpose in building things, fixing things, and doing work that matters.
“Trades work isn’t just honorable, it’s essential,” Joe says. “The world doesn’t run without skilled tradespeople.” That belief is what drew Joe to support Explore The Trades. A proud donor since 2007 he sees the organization’s mission as perfectly aligned with his own values: giving people the tools and opportunities to succeed.
